#0040 Thunder Egg, Lava Cap Claim, Little Florida Mtns., Deming, New Mexico USA
The nice hard red matrix and the pervasive agate filling makes the Lava Caps quite fine, the psuedomorphs divide the spaces much like they must have done in Paraiba when the polyhedroid agates were formed, but they were on a hugh scale. Not only pigments play a role in agate colors, the water concentration when high yields deep blues and when very low the result is pure white agate. This specimen has quite a variety of hydration as the colors show. This is not loose water but water of crystalization which becomes integral to the agate.
